Winter is coming, bringing holidays with it! This ancient saying accurately points to the uniqueness of the three months when snow falls, the frost bites, and playful cold captures the cheeks, creating a natural blush without any cosmetic products. St. Nicholas Day, Christmas, New Year, Epiphany, Generous Evening, Jordan… and this is far from a complete list of all the festivities. How can you do without treats, entertaining guests, and pleasant surprises for your loved ones?
Certainly, you not only want to treat your friends and relatives but also be inspired by these winter holidays. Therefore, there is a desire to transform into a real good wizard to amaze everyone with new flavors. For this purpose, new recipes of bright, festive cocktails will be perfect.
The main characters of today’s conversation will be the original De La Bo Gin, classic Trafalgar Gin, and the very spicy and quite original Grenadine syrup.
Pink Rhinoceros This mix not only has an original name but also a quite spectacular presentation, as the finished product has a very beautiful color and a unique taste. It wonderfully combines interesting components:
- Grenadine syrup (10 ml);
- Grapefruit lemonade (150 ml);
- Lime fresh (10 ml);
- Pink salt and ice cubes (2 g and 180 g).
As a base, our wonderful De La Bo Gin with a citrus-juniper taste and aroma will be perfect. Add at least 50 ml of it to the mixture. The result: a delicately red sweet drink with a slight sourness and bitterness in taste, freshness, and refined “citrus” aroma. And don’t forget about the salt – use it to rim the glass.
Tom Collins The classic recipe, attributed to the “father of bar culture” Thomas Jerry, includes simple sugar syrup. However, if you want to feel the taste of true extravagance, you can replace it with Grenadine syrup.
So, the ingredients for Tom Collins are as follows:
- Brandbar Trafalgar Gin (50 ml);
- Syrup (25 ml);
- Soda (100 ml);
- Lemon juice (25 ml);
- Ice cubes.
To prepare, mix the gin with ice, lemon juice, and syrup in a shaker. Strain the mixture into a glass with ice and add soda. Use a lemon slice, orange, lime, or tangerine wedge as a garnish.
Clover Club This cocktail got its name after the closed male Philadelphia elite “Clover Club.” It included bankers, lawyers, journalists, and industrialists. The mix was created by one of the members of that “secret brotherhood.” The ingredients are simple: 50 ml of De La Bo Gin, 25 ml of Grenadine syrup, the same amount of fresh lemon juice, one egg white, and ice.
To prepare, you’ll need a shaker. Mix all the ingredients except the ice in the shaker. Shake for fifteen seconds to turn the egg white into a delicate foam, add the ice cubes, shake for another fifteen seconds. Then strain the cocktail into a chilled Martini glass, garnish with a sprig of mint or a lime slice, and serve.
Here are a few interesting facts about this magical drink. Why does the common field plant – clover – figure in the name? Because the club’s founders considered it a natural symbol of science, art, and… luck! Clover was romanticized by poets of the time, associated with the most beautiful time – childhood when you don’t have to deal with complex issues but can simply enjoy life, have fun, and be happy.
The Clover Club cocktail could only be tasted outside Philadelphia a dozen years after its invention. One of the club members, the owner of the Bellevue-Stratford hotel, J. Boldt, moved to New York. This is where the exciting journey of the drink began. After obtaining permission to print the recipe in the most famous newspaper of that time, the Clover Club gained fame and quickly climbed the popularity ladder. Bartenders from the renowned Plaza hotel even proposed to teach the inventor the art of preparation and presentation.
Experiments with the recipe began. Each elite hotel tried to add its own “highlight.” For some, it was a ripe raspberry, for others – a sprig of fragrant mint. Lemon, lime, vermouth… all this led to the fact that today we have countless variations of the classic cocktail. So, don’t hesitate, prepare and enjoy the pleasant smoothness and subtle spiciness of this drink. Who knows, maybe luck will smile on you, and the symbolic Clover will bring not only a good mood but also luck.
Singapore Sling This cocktail is considered a purely Singaporean creation. The recipe has been around for over 100 years since the drink first appeared in 1915. Its creator is Ngiam Tong Boon, a local bartender from China. The Singapore Sling cocktail looks like a simple juice with ice from the outside. But inside each glass, there is a secret. Despite all the traditional restrictions of that time (it was believed that delicate women should not consume strong drinks), the cocktail’s author decided to satisfy both the strict requirements of decency and the not-so-secret desires of women. Therefore, he added a considerable amount of alcoholic ingredients to the recipe.
Thus, the Singapore Sling consists of:
- Gin (both Trafalgar and De La Bo are suitable – the choice depends on personal taste preferences) – 30 ml.
- Cherry brandy or liqueur – 15 ml.
- Benedictine liqueur – 10 ml.
- Cointreau liqueur – 10 ml.
- Angostura bitters – just a couple of drops.
- Pineapple juice – 120 ml.
- Lime juice – 15 ml.
- Legendary Grenadine -10 ml.
- Small ice cubes.
To prepare, mix all the components except the ice in a shaker. Put the ice directly into the glass. Shake the mixture for 30 seconds, then strain it into the glass with ice through a bar strainer. Garnish the finished drink with a cocktail cherry or a slice of fresh pineapple. And don’t forget to add a colorful straw when serving.
This mix, bright on the outside and with a “twist” on the inside, helped women in the high society of the last century enjoy a refreshing alcoholic cocktail in public places without violating the established unwritten norms of decency.
