Ron Barcelo was founded in 1929 in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) by two brothers – Spaniards Andre and Juan Barcelo. Local conditions make it possible to grow excellent quality sugar cane and produce excellent rum from it, famous all over the world. Starting with the release of small batches, the brothers managed to achieve amazing results and become leaders in the Dominican market.
The further prosperity of the Barcelo company was prevented by a strong hurricane, which completely destroyed the plant. André Barcelo left Santo Domingo and did not rebuild the plant, unlike Juan, who, at the cost of incredible efforts, recreated the enterprise and brought it to an even higher level.
In the 1980s, Barcelo decided to expand its markets, and already in the 1990s it became known all over the world thanks to a successful advertising campaign and the excellent quality of its drinks.
In European and American countries, Barcelo rum is sold with the slogan “This is a dark object of desire”, as dark rum was new to these markets, accustomed to white rum. Barcelo rums were most popular in Spain, which is not surprising, given the origins of the company’s founders. In 2000, the company merged with the association of Spanish alcohol merchants and created Barcelo International, which is actively expanding sales markets. Today, Ron Barcelo products are sold in more than 50 countries around the world.
When making rums, Ron Barcelo masters try to skillfully combine many years of experience and tradition with the latest technological advances. The finest sugar cane from the Dominican Republic is selected for processing and distillation. The rum is aged in old American oak bourbon barrels. The unique climatic conditions contribute to the faster maturation of rum and, according to representatives of the Barcelo company: “The Lord God Himself helped us by creating a small rum paradise here.”
